Auricular Therapy and Chair Massage

Auricular therapy is a proven option to manage the effects of acute and chronic stress in the workplace. According to Chinese medicine, the ear is considered to be a micro-system connected to all physiological and neurological functions of the body. By gently stimulating specific points in the ear with micro fine acupuncture needles, a homeostatic response is triggered in the sympathetic nervous system resulting in a renewed sense of well being. Acupuncture is known to release endogenous endorphins, the bodies natural stress mediators. Treatments last 20 – 30 minutes and can be preformed in small group sessions.

Chair massage is a form of body work that combines acupressure, massage and light stretching to relieve physical tension and stress. Sessions last approximately twenty minutes and are done fully clothed seated in a special chair in which the client sits facing toward support cushions, exposing the scalp, shoulders, neck, arms, back, and hips.

Lunch and learns

Prevention is the best medicine. By understanding the roots of stress and what to do about it employees can begin to recognize the ill effect of stress early and take action. The South Island Stress Clinic offers a series of casual lunch time lectures on a variety of topics related to stress management for employees and management. Lectures are designed to be delivered during normal lunch hour breaks, lasting between ½ and hour to 1 hour.

In House Yoga and Meditation Classes

More and more individuals and companies are recognizing the restorative benefits of mindfulness in the work environment. Yoga and meditation are practices that train the body and mind in what is known as ‘relaxed awareness’. When done on a regular basis these practices can produce feelings of well being and greater mental clarity. Classes can be offered in the workplace on an individual basis or as part of a series.
